"This is probably a fairly good indicator that things will be normal by the weekend."

What do you mean by normal?

"We woke him Tod last night to tell him not to go to school and of course he didn't believe us. He was pretty upset he wouldn't be going to school…"

That doesn't sound normal to me!

This is probably a fairly good indicator that things will be normal by the weekend.

What do you mean by normal?

At the moment of course things like lack of government are normal. There seems to be talk of elections within the next couple of weeks, but with no constitution it's hard to see how they will be run. I suppose it'll be some sort of interim government charged with making a new constitution and holding new elections under it.

We woke him Tod last night to tell him not to go to school and of course he didn't believe us. He was pretty upset he wouldn't be going to school…

That doesn't sound normal to me!

Last night of course we weren't sure what was going to happen so it seemed prudent not to send him to school. His school is pretty close to the airport and to get there he has to go past at least one army base. If fighting had broken out then it wasn't going to be a good place to be.

As it happens it seems that most everybody (at least here in Bangkok) is supporting the removal of Thaksin, even though they wish that the Army hadn't needed to go about it in this way.

School should be open tomorrow and the government offices will be back at work. The real test for full normality will be when the Universities re-open. If there's going to be any anti-coup demonstrations then this is where they start.

What I meant was, a kid being upset about not going to school? That sounds distinctly abnormal to me!

I'm sure normality will be restored just as soon as you all work out what normality is anyway, to paraphrase some book…
