There's been another big earthquake off the coast of Sumatra (Indonesia) of somewhere in the 7.9 to 8.2 range. The latest advisory has a warning for a wave to hit Phukket at 13.08 GMT (just after 10pm Thai time and another couple of hours away as I write this). We've made sure that everybody we know who might be in the area is aware of it.
Given the location of the quake it seems unlikely that the waves hitting Thailand (if any) will be as bad as from the last one, but I don't suppose anybody really knows yet.
Hopefully everybody will be better prepared this time and loss of life will be minimal. We'll have to see how well the new warning systems work.
We're in Bangkok which is on the Gulf of Thailand. On the sea, but there are some very large land masses between us and the quake so the waves won't get to us.
