The real reason to have insanely high pixel resolution is so that you have a lot of latitude to crop photos down and still have something of a high enough resolution that it can be printed or used for other things.

Although it's great to get the composition right in the camera, when shooting kids and animals it's often better to make sure you get the moment and crop it down later. You can't fix the composition if you're shooting from the wrong place or at the wrong angle of course — you still need to get that right at the time.
